Communications Manager
West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board
"The West Yorkshire Adversity, Trauma and Resilience Programme has helped to transform the way organisations across West Yorkshire and beyond understand, respond to and prevent the impact of adversity and trauma. Under Emm Irving’s leadership, the programme grew into a powerful cross-sector movement, bringing together hundreds of partners from health, local government, education, policing, criminal justice, the voluntary sector and local communities around a shared vision for a trauma-informed and responsive West Yorkshire.
"What stood out was the programme’s ability to turn ambition into action. By combining evidence, lived experience and system leadership to create practical tools, learning opportunities and networks the programme was instrumental in helping organisations embed trauma-informed approaches into everyday practice. From developing the West Yorkshire Improving Population Health Fellowship (ATR), annual three-day knowledge exchanges, education awareness weeks and ATR Charter to training thousands of professionals and supporting local strategies, the programme created lasting change across services.
"The work consistently centred the voices of people with lived experience and promoted the principles of safety, trust, collaboration, empowerment, choice and cultural humility. This helped organisations improve access, reduce re-traumatisation, strengthen workforce wellbeing and create more equitable services for the people and communities who need them most.
"The programme’s impact can be seen not only in the resources, training and partnerships it created, but also in the cultural shift it inspired. Colleagues across sectors developed a deeper understanding of trauma and adversity, enabling them to build more compassionate, responsive and effective services."
About ATR
We Are ATR is a values-led company specialising in adversity, trauma and resilience.
We support organisations, systems and workforces to become trauma-informed, trauma-responsive, prevention-focused and evidence-led. Our work helps partners understand what sits beneath demand, harm, distress, conflict, disengagement and workforce pressure, and respond in ways that improve outcomes rather than compound harm.
We work across the systems, services and organisations that shape people’s lives, including public services, health and care, housing, education, criminal justice, community safety, recovery partnerships, voluntary and community organisations, employers and commercial partners.
Our simple proposition is this:
We help organisations move from awareness to action, and from good intention to measurable change.
Why Choose We Are ATR
Many providers offer training, consultancy or evaluation. We bring all three together through ATR Academy, Think ATR and ATR Respond.
This means partners can build workforce capability, generate insight and evidence, and receive practical implementation support through one integrated relationship. We help organisations understand what is happening, decide what needs to change, equip people to work differently and measure the difference made.
