"The ATR Programme has brought passion, curiosity, compassion and challenge in equal measure. It has not just raised awareness, it has provided tools, evidence, training and fellowships that have enabled people to go deeper, reflect and embed trauma-informed approaches into practice, organisations and partnerships."

"The Adversity, Trauma and Resilience (ATR) Programme across West Yorkshire has played a significant role in deepening understanding of trauma and its impact across our systems, communities and workforce. In Wakefield, where I am based, this has been particularly meaningful. Leaders such as Cath Knibbs championed this work locally, but it has been through our shared West Yorkshire journey that the ambition to become trauma-informed by 2030 began to feel real.
"The ATR Programme has brought passion, curiosity, compassion and challenge in equal measure. It has not just raised awareness, it has provided tools, evidence, training and fellowships that have enabled people to go deeper, reflect and embed trauma-informed approaches into practice, organisations and partnerships. At a time of increasing pressure, reduced funding and a culture of scarcity, the approach developed through ATR has never been more important. It supports connection, belonging and trust, all essential if we are serious about supporting communities to feel safe, supported and able to thrive.
"While the programme funding has ended, the legacy of this work matters. The continuation of this through the new CIC, led by those who brought such energy and commitment to ATR, feels both necessary and hopeful. The momentum, challenge and curiosity they have created remains vital to this journey.
"Trust in services leads to engagement. When people feel understood and safe, communities can grow, learn and support one another. A continued focus on workforce development, organisational learning and collaboration will be key to building the trauma-informed system we know is needed.
"At the heart of this is hope, not just supporting people to get through the day or the night, and sometimes the next moment, but creating the conditions where people can begin to feel that things can change.
"I believe West Yorkshire can thrive, and the foundations laid through ATR are a big part of that. I wish the team all the best as they take this important work forward. An example of why we are not there yet."
About ATR
We Are ATR is a values-led company specialising in adversity, trauma and resilience.
We support organisations, systems and workforces to become trauma-informed, trauma-responsive, prevention-focused and evidence-led. Our work helps partners understand what sits beneath demand, harm, distress, conflict, disengagement and workforce pressure, and respond in ways that improve outcomes rather than compound harm.
We work across the systems, services and organisations that shape people’s lives, including public services, health and care, housing, education, criminal justice, community safety, recovery partnerships, voluntary and community organisations, employers and commercial partners.
Our simple proposition is this:
We help organisations move from awareness to action, and from good intention to measurable change.
Why Choose We Are ATR
Many providers offer training, consultancy or evaluation. We bring all three together through ATR Academy, Think ATR and ATR Respond.
This means partners can build workforce capability, generate insight and evidence, and receive practical implementation support through one integrated relationship. We help organisations understand what is happening, decide what needs to change, equip people to work differently and measure the difference made.
